Doors
In their work, Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset focus on Lufthansa’s image as a formal, order-loving organisation. The Danish artists integrate doors with a touch of humour.

Elmgreen & Dragset’s response to the glass architecture of the Lufthansa Aviation Center is to “encroach” upon the door systems, giving these entry and exit situations a subtle social relevance. The doors designed by the two artists resemble the other doors in the building in terms of design and the materials used, but they are disfunctional. Door handles on both sides, safety chains between two adjacent doors, or doors which only open onto another door indicate a social coding, in which all areas are seemingly identical, but in actual fact are subject to strict access rules.
